User Guide • Research & Development

There are 5 technology areas in which research can be performed, these are Weapons Systems, Energy Cores, Personnel Training, Ship Construction and Special Technology. Research and Development is done in your colony research station by your Colony Leader, Colony Vice-Leader or a specially appointed Research Manager. Research obvioulsy has its price, to cover the costs of the research, miners and cargo transporters need to deliver minerals to the Research Station. Without the necessary amount of minerals, research can not take place, consult your council if you are not sure if you should deliver your payload to the Research Station or to your Colony Headquarters.

Weapons Systems
In a state of war, weapons are an essential tool. When colonies find themselves in a state such as this, it’s only natural recourse is to arm itself and prepare for conflict. In order to best the weapons of the other side, one’s own arsenal must be inspected and constantly upgraded. Upgrading weapon systems include the introduction of better cooling systems, faster targeting mechanisms, and of course increasing the destructive power of bombs, lasers, and missiles. Each level of Weapon Systems researched improves weapon damage and cool down by 10% (not cumulative).

Energy Cores
All ships, structures, and machines require a power source to work. Improving the generation and distribution of energy makes machines more efficient. Creating a stable, clean, and inexhaustible source of power has always been the object of all power research, and each improvement brings us a step closer to this goal. Each level of Energy Cores researched leads to better technologies.

Personnel Training
Machines are all operated by an independent controller, a sentient being capable of making decisions. Sentient, however, does not mean perfect. The imperfections of sentiency are eliminated one by one through the habituation of proper actions. By instilling a sense of discipline, teamwork, initiative, a perfect coordination between mind and body, officer and superior, and an extensive knowledge in the fields of astrophysics, electronics, and military tactics, a man becomes a squad, and a squad becomes an army. Each level of Personnel Training researched allows a pilot to train another 5 times to improve combat, piloting, or engineering skills.

Ship Construction
Space is a vacuum, a vast area of emptiness. It is the nature of any form of matter to occupy unoccupied space. If a ship or structure is built with a weak infrastructure, it is liable to break up and become nothing but debris floating in space, especially in the presence of a hostile fleet. Hulls must therefore be studied to reduce the risk to its crew and cargo. To ensure the integrity of a ship or structure’s hull in outer space, its walls must be reinforced, and buffer zones must be put in place. A strong hull will ensure survival; a weak one will spell doom. Each level of Ship Construction researched improved ship and structure hulls by 10% and 5% respectively (not cumulative).

Researching new Technologies
Research is done by the research manager or the colony leader through the research panel. The CL and RM are the only ones that can actively use the research panel. The CVL only has browse capabilities of the panel and should be using the panel to conduct a research strategy with the Colony Leader and Research Manager. The research panel shows what can be researched, what has already been researched and so on. An example research panel is shown below although the display might vary of course with new developments of Nemesis War itself and depending of course on the research status of your colony.
